My name is Miss Makayla and I am a teacher/ program administrator at Anchor Point Early Learning Academy. I have a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from RI College along with 8 years’ experience in the field. Working with children has always been a passion of mine. I started my career working as a floating teacher in a center based preschool where I had the opportunity to work with all ages from infants to after school. Shortly after, I had the opportunity to lead and nurture a toddler classroom and coordinate an infant/ toddler curriculum to support other teachers in the program. More recently, I worked as a substitute teacher primarily in pre-k and kindergarten which I believe gave me the opportunity to see first hand what the expectations are for kindergarten and beyond.
One of my greatest passions is supporting the social and emotional development of each child that I work with. I believe strongly in the importance of teaching problem solving, appropriate social skills, managing feelings and learning to make sense of the world from the view point of a child. Having the opportunity to watch each child flourish in this area is what gives me the most fulfillment in working in early childhood education.
My interests outside of the classroom include learning to cook and learning line dancing. I also love going to educational conferences and getting new information that can support all students and staff members. I am beyond excited to join the Anchor Point Early Learning Academy Team.
